With recent developments and rising concerns around COVID-19, we have been keeping a close eye on information being released around international travel and the REC Foundation's options with regard to the VEX World Championships for 2020. With guidance from the World Health Organisation, Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and local and state health officials, the REC Foundation and VEX Robotics have made the decision to cancel the 2020 VEX Robotics World Championship due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. This is devastating news for many of our students who had worked so hard to earn their World Qualification spot and made fantastic representatives for New Zealand on the global stage. Our hearts go out to those teams, their teachers, coaches, families and supporters. There is no indication yet how announcement of the new 2020-21 game will occur, however at this stage it looks like there are many options for how this will be done and should not affect the timeline of the 2020-21 season.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to develop, Kiwibots are actively updating our event plans to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all those in our community at our future events, including KiwiChallenge and the new season's scrimmages. Updates will be shared with any significant changes. In the meantime, please continue to follow the advice of CDC and the Ministry of Health to protect yourself and protect others.
